Bidayuhs of old would consult a boris to get relief from their ailments. During a gawai or gawia celebration, a group of boris would sit on a swing to sing ritualistic songs to summon spirits and consult them for advice. In the annual harvest festival or gawia sowa’, they consult the spirit of rice about the next planting season.
